Terpenes are the natural aromatic compounds found in all plants. They contribute to the nuanced flavours and additional sensory effects in cannabis. There are eight prominent terpenes found in cannabis.

LIMONENE - Citrusy 
Associated with stress relief and found in fruit rinds, rosemary, juniper and peppermint.
Boiling point 176°C (349°F)
HUMULENE - Woody
Sometimes used as an anti-inflammatory and found in hops, coriander, cloves, and basil.
Boiling point 198°C (388°F)
PINENE - Piney
Known to promote mental alertness and found in pine needles, rosemary, basil, parsley, and dill.

LINALOOL - Floral
Admired for its calming effect and primarily found in the lavender flower.

CARYOPHYLLENE - Peppery
Known to reduce the effects of THC and found in black pepper, cloves, and cinnamon.
Boiling point 160°C (320°F)
MYRCENE - Musky
Believed to enhance the effects of THC and found in mango, lemongrass, thyme, hops, and cloves.
Boiling point 168°C (334°F)
OCIMENE - Earthy
No known medicinal effects and found in mint, parsley, orchids, and kumquats.

TERPINOLENE - Floral
Associated with a relaxing effect and found in nutmeg, tea tree, conifers, apples, cumin, and lilacs.
